Especially when it's your first baby, you feel a little boxed in to the hospital setting--at least that was my experience. I have no regrets, but I certainly have gained a lot of knowledge since then!!! There's SO much judgement in the birthing world (well, the babies/children world in general), and if there's one thing I'm sick of hearing, it's the condescending "a healthy baby is the only thing that matters!" No. No it's not. Of course a healthy baby matters, but a healthy mama matters, too. I felt the same way after the birth with my son...even though I was very pleased with the hospital (very similar to yours, only this one was in Cambridge, MA), I still had a very difficult recovery, and there were things I wish I could have done differently. When I was pregnant with Alessandra, much to the dismay of both our families, I decided to give birth with a midwife at a freestanding birth center. My experience and my recovery were night and day compared to the birth and recovery with my son. Which was a good thing, since at that point I had a high-needs baby and a toddler on my hands! :) It was difficult, though, explaining why I wanted to have an out-of-hospital birth the second time around, because without fail, someone would always give me a strange look and ask what was so bad about my son's birth. Well, nothing was BAD about it, but it was still a long and difficult L&D, dealing with hospital policies, and not being able to go home until Friday (when I had gone in for my induction on Tuesday morning!). So yeah. I completely understand.Marisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00977382355749851597noreply@blogger.com
